Shajiaowei Neolithic Site

The Shajiaowei Neolithic Site is a cultural tourism attraction.

Situated on a coastal hillside three kilometers southeast of Jiesheng Town’s Jiesheng City. The site is backed by mountains to the east and faces the sea to the west. It is named "Shajiaowei Site" because it lies close to Shajiaowei Village to the northwest. Discovered in 1936 by British priest Father Finn and Italian priest Father Maglioni, the surface finds mainly consist of polished stone tools, including long stone axes, stone adzes, a small number of shouldered stone adzes, and willow-leaf-shaped stone arrowheads. Pottery mainly includes short-footed jars decorated with wavy patterns, some featuring an additional band of decoration around the belly, and occasionally a spout along the rim. Surfaces are adorned with corded patterns, diagonal grid patterns, vein patterns, wavy patterns, and more. The site dates back to the late Neolithic period, approximately over 4,000 years ago, and provides physical evidence for studying the prehistoric culture of Haifeng’s coastal region.
