Ming City Ruins

The Ming City Ruins is a cultural tourism attraction.

Located southwest of Houjing Village in the city center. In the late Ming Dynasty, to defend against Japanese pirates and marauders, "Kanxia City" was built within Shanwei. In the early years of the Republic of China, the Guangdong Governor established an arsenal inside the city. The city has an irregular oval layout, with remaining walls standing 3 meters high, featuring double-layered sandwich walls constructed from lime-sand rammed earth. The wall is 1,157 meters in circumference and has 391 crenels. It has four well-preserved gates: east, west, south, and north. Inside the site, there is now a Temple of the City God and a small number of inscribed stone tablets. This scenic area serves as an open urban museum primarily showcasing Shanwei’s border defense culture, urban evolution, coastal military history, and civilian culture. It integrates the concept of tourism, combining protection with development, as well as cultural relics with tourism, forming a functional urban cultural zone.
