Windmill Island

Windmill Island is a peninsula surrounded by sea on three sides, with three natural villages on the island. Shigongliao Village is what outsiders and wedding photography studios refer to as Windmill Island. There is a wind power plant on the island, featuring many snow-white wind turbines. On the vast, deserted beach, solitary grass huts stand alone, and the white windmills against the azure sky give off an Aegean Sea vibe.

Transportation

You can take a bus from Shanwei city center, which takes about 40 minutes, or take a taxi from the urban area. From Honghai Bay, you can ride a motorcycle taxi for around 35–40 RMB, with a trip duration of about 20 minutes. By car, drive along Honghai Bay Avenue toward the return direction for about 5 km, turn right when you see the “Shigongliao” road sign, then continue along a cross-sea highway for another 5 km to reach the destination.

Zhelang Subdistrict: Zhelang Subdistrict is located at the southeastern corner of Shanwei city center, at the border between - and Jieshi Bay. It neighbors Tianqian Subdistrict to the west and Dongzhou Subdistrict to the north, and faces Hai’feng County’s Dahuzhen Town and Lufeng City across Jieshi Bay to the northeast. Zhelang is an important part of Shanwei’s marine economic development and a key area for the city’s planned coastal tourism and port-side industrial economy. The subdistrict currently administers one community and ten village committees: Gongqian, Hegang, Shuiguiliao, Shigongliao, Tianliao, Hongkan, Guilin, Dongwei, Changgou, and Xinwei, covering an area of 24.7 square kilometers with a population of 33,000 (2009).
