The Former Site of the Socialist Research Society is a classic red tourism attraction.

The Former Site of the Socialist Research Society is located on Zahu Street in Haicheng Town, Haifeng County. It was originally the ancestral temple of the Chen family from the Qing Dynasty, known as Mian De Tang, featuring a three-courtyard quadrangle layout with fire-prevention gables, covering an area of 391.5 square meters.

In June 1921, Peng Pai invited a group of young people, including Zheng Zhiyun and Chen Kuinya, to study socialist issues here, where they organized the “Red Heart Society” and the “Socialist Research Society,” publishing the Red Heart Weekly and New Haifeng, which featured articles promoting socialism and the New Culture Movement.

In 1963, the Haifeng County People’s Government designated it as a cultural relics protection unit.

Haicheng Town: Haicheng Town belonged to Xingxian Fang during the 27th year of the Hongwu reign (1384 AD) in the Ming Dynasty. At the beginning of the Republic of China, it was designated as the First District, and in 1950, Haicheng Town was officially established. It is the seat of the Haifeng County government, the hometown of the famous proletarian revolutionary and outstanding leader of the peasant movement, martyr Peng Pai, the birthplace of China’s first workers’ and peasants’ red political power, and a historical and cultural city in Guangdong Province.
