Yunlian Temple

Yunlian Temple is located in the Lianhua Mountain Forest Management Area in the northern part of Haifeng County, Shanwei City. It boasts a prime location and an elegant environment, nestled against towering mountains and steep cliffs, flanked by the protective embrace of the Azure Dragon and White Tiger, with the Elephant Trunk Hill meandering towards it and the Seal Peak paying homage. In the distance, the Gongping Reservoir and Honghuadi Reservoir shimmer like mirrors. The majestic landscape features breathtaking views that seem to lift the heavens and bathe in the sun. In front of the temple, lush woods conceal beauty, while murmuring springs create enchanting sounds. As you ascend the steps, the scenery is a feast for the eyes. There are peculiar rocks and stones such as “Arhat’s Foot,” “Golden Turtle Gazing at the Moon,” and “Wooden Fish Facing the Sky.” The natural scenery is grand, spectacular, rugged, and serene, leaving visitors in awe.

The temple also houses mountain kumquat and Indian jujube trees planted by Patriarch Xuan Yun over 300 years ago, which still bloom and bear fruit, full of vitality. It also preserves cultural relics passed down from Patriarch Xuan Yun, including a treasured white marble incense burner and stone mortar, considered the temple’s sacred treasures. The main hall, Yuantong Treasure Hall, enshrines the Bodhisattva Cundi, while the side halls on the left and right house statues of the Medicine Buddha and the Kṣitigarbha Bodhisattva, respectively. The abbot is Venerable Shi Xincheng, President of the Guangdong Buddhist Association, and the first seat is held by Venerable Shi Yaozhi, Vice President of the Provincial Buddhist Association and Master of Dafo Temple.
