Huizhou City’s Municipal-level Dunzi Nature Reserve is located in Luzhou Town, Huicheng District. It is a forest ecological and wildlife-oriented nature reserve primarily dedicated to protecting the South Asian tropical evergreen broad-leaved forests and rare animals and plants. The total area of the reserve is 1,923 hectares, including a core zone of 769.3 hectares, a buffer zone of 522.6 hectares, and an experimental zone of 631.1 hectares.

The reserve is situated in a hilly and mountainous area, with elevations ranging from 33 meters to 337.9 meters. There are eight hills within the reserve, ranging in height from 220 meters to 337.9 meters. The forested land in the reserve covers 1,774.4 hectares, accounting for 92.3% of the total area. This includes 1,703 hectares of wooded forest and 71.4 hectares of non-forested land. Among the wooded areas, there are 760 hectares of evergreen broad-leaved forest, 365 hectares of evergreen coniferous-broadleaf mixed forest, 2 hectares of economic forest, and 20 hectares of bamboo forest. According to surveys, the reserve is home to nearly 100 species of wild animals, including 10 that are under national first or second-class protection. It also hosts 668 species of vascular plants, six of which are under national protection.

1. Geographic Location. Luzhou Town was one of the five former northern mountainous towns of Huizhou City (when it was known as Huiyang). It is located along the middle reaches of the Dong River and borders Tai Mei Town and Guanyinge Town of Boluo County across the water.
