Gongbei Bridge

Gongbei Bridge is located at the water outlet on the north side of West Lake. It is also known as the "Five-Eye Bridge" because the bridge has five arches. Built during the Zhiping era of the Northern Song Dynasty (1506-1521) when Governor Chen Chui constructed the embankment around the lake, it has a history of 900 years. It has been maintained through various dynasties. The bridge is made of brick and stone, measuring 40 meters in length, 8.4 meters in width, and 8.7 meters in height. With its classic, rustic design and sturdy construction, it is one of the six historically famous bridges of West Lake. In spring, when flowers bloom and lake water flows into the river, the scene of tumbling snow-white rapids and glistening droplets makes it one of the lake’s most iconic sights.
