Wangye Pavilion

Wangye Pavilion is located at a high point in Zhongshan Park, Huizhou City. Originally named Wangye Pavilion, it was built in the 11th year of the Tongzhi reign during the Qing Dynasty (1872) and underwent major renovations in 1959. The pavilion stands by the river, shaded by towering ancient banyan trees and flame trees. In summer, the river breeze is refreshing, with fallen petals covering the ground. In winter, the sunlight is warm, casting dappled shadows through the trees.

In October 1925, the National Revolutionary Army's Second Eastern Expedition, led by revolutionary teachers and students from the Whampoa Military Academy as the backbone, along with other leaders, launched a campaign against the warlord Chen Jiongming. They captured the ancient city of Huizhou, known as an impregnable stronghold. On the morning of October 16, a military-civilian joint celebration assembly was held here, and in the afternoon, a memorial service for the soldiers who died in the battle to take Huizhou was conducted, both using this pavilion as the main stage, with the area in front serving as the venue. Visitors often come here to pay tribute to the revolutionary martyrs.
