Huizhou Nine-Bend Bridge

To the north of Solitary Hill lies the Nine-Bend Bridge, which leads directly to Diancui Islet in the flat lake area of West Lake. The islet is home to the Solitary Isle Pavilion, built during the Ming Dynasty as the Diancui Pavilion. To the west of the pavilion is Loquat Islet, and there are two other bridges connecting Solitary Hill with Fanghua Islet. The “Flower Harbor Fish Viewing” scenic spot is also located here.

The Nine-Bend Bridge is 18 meters long in total, leading directly to Diancui Islet in the flat lake area of West Lake, where the Solitary Isle Pavilion sits. It was built during the Ming Dynasty as the Diancui Pavilion. To the west of the pavilion is Loquat Islet, and there are two other bridges connecting Solitary Hill with Fanghua Islet. The “Flower Harbor Fish Viewing” scenic spot is also located here.

The Nine-Bend Bridge features nine twists and eighteen turns, with each bend varying in angle — some greater than 90 degrees, others less. The current bridge surface is paved with granite slabs, and each slab at a turning point is carved with a seasonal flower, such as daffodils for January, apricot blossoms for February, peach blossoms for March… all the way to wintersweet for December. Additionally, a lotus flower is carved on the first and last slabs of the bridge.

On the section of the bridge in front of the Lakeside Pavilion Teahouse, a lotus flower is carved in the center, with colorful clouds carved at each of the four corners. In the pool stands an elegant white marble sculpture of a lotus fairy, smiling welcomingly to greet visitors.
