Huizhou Museum

Huizhou Museum is located at No. 3 West Minle Road, Jiangbei, Huizhou City. The main building was designed by the Architectural Design & Research Institute of Tongji University in Shanghai. Construction began in August 2006 with a total investment of approximately 160 million yuan. The building covers a construction area of about 23,000 square meters, has five floors above ground and one underground. Its exterior design symbolizes the “Seal of History,” and is complemented by a night lighting project that makes it shine like a bright pearl by the Dong River.

Huizhou Museum mainly consists of functional areas including exhibition display, collection storage, public services, technical offices, and creative research. Floors one to four house a total of 10 exhibition halls, covering an exhibition area of 7,000 square meters. Its permanent exhibitions include the “Exhibition of Cultural Relics and Masterpieces,” “Civilization of the Dongjiang River Basin Exhibition Hall,” “Gallery of Huizhou Historical Figures,” and “Liu Lun Art Gallery.”

The first floor features a multifunctional mobile exhibition hall, primarily hosting high-level, high-spec temporary exhibitions organized by the municipal government and various sectors of society.

The second floor hosts the “Exhibition of Cultural Relics and Masterpieces,” displaying the museum’s premium collections such as ancient ceramics, gold-lacquered wood carvings, jade artifacts, bronzeware, and murals.

The third floor features the chronological exhibition “Civilization of the Dongjiang River Basin Exhibition Hall,” divided into seven sections: Traces of Early Settlers, The Mystery of Fulu, Lingnan’s Renowned Prefecture, Gathering of Talents, Flames of Revolution, Folk Customs, and Huizhou Today. Based on historical relics (photographs) and documents, and centered around major archaeological discoveries, significant historical events, and important historical figures, this exhibition combines painting, sculpture, dioramas, models, and modern auxiliary displays such as sound, light, and electricity to comprehensively showcase the development of Huizhou’s historical civilization.

The fourth floor “Gallery of Huizhou Historical Figures” displays statues of 48 notable figures from Huizhou’s history. These individuals gained fame for their morality, literary works, and achievements, highlighting Huizhou’s rich culture and talented populace. These statues were created by renowned sculptor Cao Chong’en, along with faculty and students from the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts and the Art Department of Shenzhen University, based on extensive historical materials. They are considered collectible artworks of significant value.

The fourth floor “Liu Lun Art Gallery” is a dedicated exhibition space for the paintings of the contemporary renowned artist and former director of the Guangzhou Academy of Painting, Liu Lun. A native of Huizhou, Liu Lun dedicated himself to the creation and study of painting art for many years, achieving great expertise in traditional Chinese painting, watercolor, and woodblock prints. He donated nearly 200 of his artworks to Huizhou, including masterpieces such as “Liberation of Serfs” and “The Red Army Crossing the Mountain Pass.” The Huizhou Municipal People's Government awarded him the title “Painter of the Dongjiang People” and established the Liu Lun Art Gallery to honor his contributions to the cultural development of his hometown.
