Dongpo Memorial Hall in Huizhou

The Dongpo Memorial Hall is located on Solitary Hill in West Lake, Huizhou City, Guangdong Province. Solitary Hill is a small hill on the eastern side of West Lake, named after Hangzhou's Solitary Hill due to being surrounded by water on all sides. During the Song Dynasty, there was the Qichan Temple on the hill, which people then called Qichan Hill. Su Dongpo’s concubine, Wang Chaoyun, was buried in the pine forest beside the temple.

The Tomb of Wang Chaoyun and the Liuru Pavilion are famous historic sites on Solitary Hill, which visitors have always come to pay their respects to. Hu Ximing, the director of the Guangdong Provincial Committee on Culture and History, once wrote a poem in praise: “The debate over loyalists and kings never ends; the songs and tears by West Lake endure through the ages. Qiantang’s Su Xia has left no trace, but loses to Chaoyun, who rests in Huizhou.” In recent years, the Su Dongpo Memorial Hall was built on Solitary Hill, with a statue of the Master Dongpo erected, a stele corridor constructed, and more than a hundred historical relics related to Su Dongpo collected for visitors to admire. It has since been honored with the scenic title “Su Relics on Solitary Hill.” Beside the hall lies the tomb of Su Dongpo’s concubine, Wang Chaoyun.
