Chigang Village

Chigang Village in Tonghu Town, Zhongkai High-Tech Zone, originated during the late Ming and early Qing dynasties (around 1511). Despite more than 500 years of weathering, the ancient dwellings in the village have been well preserved. The Meiqian Study Hall, built during the Qing Dynasty, was renovated in 2008, giving this time-worn structure a fresh new look.

The ancient dwellings are connected by “well”-shaped alleys, with the houses mostly intact but sparsely inhabited. The residences in Chigang Ancient Village are neatly arranged, usually in groups of five or seven, with hard mountain-style roofs, earthen tiles, and brick walls. These orderly homes are interconnected by “well”-patterned alleys. The alleys are paved with thick stone slabs that have been smoothed over the years by wind and rain.
