Pinghai Ancient City is a cultural tourism attraction and a patriotic education base.

Pinghai Ancient City was built in the 18th year of the Hongwu reign during the Ming Dynasty (1385 AD) and has a history of over 600 years. It is hailed as a "living fossil" of Lingnan culture. Located 53 kilometers from Huidong County, at the southernmost tip of the county, it faces the South China Sea, borders [mountain/range name missing] to the east, and leans against Daya Bay to the west. Historically, it has been a key coastal defense stronghold and a vital maritime hub for southern Huizhou. During the late Yuan and early Ming dynasties, piracy was rampant. In the Hongwu era of the Ming Dynasty, the city was constructed to defend against external threats. From the Kangxi to Jiaqing reigns of the Qing Dynasty, a series of fortresses were built along the front lines of Pinghai City, including the Daxing Mountain Fort, Pan’yan Port Fort, Dun’tou Port Fort, Dongzengtou Fort, Jitou Fort, forming a tightly fortified coastal defense line. To this day, Pinghai Ancient City still retains four relatively intact city gate towers, sections of the ancient city wall, a complete ancient cross-shaped street, most of the historic residences, as well as a number of ancient temples, cultural heritage sites, and a wealth of historical relics.

Transportation

Take a direct bus from Huidong Passenger Transport Terminal to Gangkou, then hire a motorcycle to reach the ancient city after arriving in Pinghai Town.
