Lion Chao Cave

Huidong's Lion Chao Cave is located on the mountainside of Foye Mountain, south of Pingshan Town in Huidong County, renowned for its unique rocks and ancient temples. Two red-walled, green-tiled temples adorned with carved dragons and painted phoenixes nestle amidst verdant hills, clear waters, and striking rock formations, creating a delightful scene. These two temples are the Foye Temple and the Guanyin Temple, both originally built during the Tianqi era of the Ming Dynasty. The most intriguing feature of Lion Chao Cave is its mountain full of peculiar rocks; the large boulders are piled precariously one atop the other, and visitors must climb vines and cling to rocks to reach the top of the Guanyin Temple, which is built inside a large cave.

"Immortal’s Resting Trough" is considered the most spectacular of Lion Chao Cave’s rock formations. It consists of three massive stones: one lies flat and smooth as a whetstone, while two stand upright at either end, resembling a modern-style bed. The “bed” can accommodate around seven or eight people lying down, but it sways unsteadily. When someone stands on it and shakes it, it resonates with a clanging sound, startling those nearby. There is also an “Rice-Producing Stone,” which has a small hole in it from which a thin stream of water flows. Nowadays, many visitors come here to admire the mountains and visit the temples. Seeing the stone hole and hearing the legends only adds to the enjoyment of the trip.
