Xunliao Bay is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.

Xunliao Bay is located in the southern part of Pingshan Town, Huidong, beside Jinhaiwan Avenue. Its water quality is among the cleanest in Guangdong, making the bay quite famous. It gets very lively every weekend, attracting a large number of visitors from Guangzhou and Shenzhen.

Xunliao Bay has a long coastline, stretching over 20 kilometers, with many bays scattered along it. There are both public beaches and paid ones such as Jinhaiwan and Dezyuan, as well as islands like Triangle Island and Fengchi Island, plus attractions such as mangroves and Tin Hau Temple.

Mòzǐshí Scenic Area is the most famous beach in Xunliao Bay, so it tends to be the most crowded, and most people come here to have fun. If you prefer something quieter, you can head to the bays near Nanhai Fishing Village — a favorite spot among locals. The water quality there is no worse than at Mòzǐshí, and although the sand quality is slightly inferior, it’s generally much less crowded.

Island vacations are all pretty similar: you can stroll along the white sandy beach and enjoy a laid-back vibe; collect seashells and sunbathe on the shore; or join a unique fishing trip out to sea. Fishing boats are often waiting for passengers on the beach. On weekdays, it costs around 15 RMB per person, or about 200 RMB to charter a boat. Prices are slightly higher during holidays, and any fish or shrimp you catch are given to you as part of the experience. Of course, you can also splash around in the sea, play in the waves, and run through the surf like a kid.

About Accommodation

There are plenty of hotels in Xunliao Bay, including five-star options such as Kempinski and Sheraton, though they tend to be quite pricey. The upside is that most high-end hotels offer direct sea views, great locations, and relatively mature service facilities.

Along Haiwan Avenue, you’ll find hotels and guesthouses of various grades, though most aren’t really worth their prices. For more budget-friendly options, consider staying at homestays on Xunping Road. While they don’t have sea views, you’ll get to see farmland and green mountains — still quite pleasant — and they’re within walking distance to the bay.

About Dining

There are lots of seafood restaurants here serving super fresh food — dishes like spicy garlic mantis shrimp, ginger-scallion fried flower crab, and steamed sea fish let you indulge to your heart’s content. If you want to buy your own seafood, there’s a somewhat hard-to-find market in Xunliao Town. Ask the locals for directions. Fishermen usually return around 0:00 with their fresh catch and sell it right by the market.

Many people choose Sheng’an Restaurant to cook their seafood. It’s a well-known spot with good reviews, located at No. 2 next to the Xunliao Tourist Resort Market, down the road opposite the Gangyi Convenience Store — you’ll see it along the way. Drinks here are expensive, but you can bring your own, so it’s a good idea to BYOB if you go.
