Northwest of Xin'an Town in Huidong, there lies a mountain range that suddenly turns sharply from south to north and then stretches eastward in undulating waves, resembling a proud lion glancing back. The renowned ancient Xilai Temple is located atop Lion Ridge at the far end of this mountain range, boasting a history of a thousand years. The temple is surrounded by overlapping peaks, ancient trees that blot out the sky, clinging vines and creepers, and rugged, grotesque rocks. Nestled within, white clouds drift, cool breezes blow, clear springs gurgle, birds chirp and flowers bloom, while evening drums and morning bells echo — it feels like a heavenly realm. The temple's architectural design is uniquely distinctive, featuring white walls and green tiles, winding eaves and corridors, all exuding an air of simplicity and elegance. The majestic Buddha Hall follows the contour of the mountain, with its roof naturally formed by giant rocks — a perfect fusion with nature, grand and imposing. Throughout the ages, Xilai Temple has gained widespread fame for its profound Buddhist teachings, beautiful legends, miraculous rocks, and pleasant scenery, attracting pilgrims and tourists alike. It has become a well-known sacred Buddhist site and a wonderful summer retreat.
