Guangdong-Ganzhou-Hunan Border Column Memorial Park
The Guangdong-Ganzhou-Hunan Border Column Memorial Park is a classic red tourism destination.
The People's Liberation Army Guangdong-Ganzhou-Hunan Border Column was a people's armed force established during the Chinese Liberation War under the leadership of the Communist Party of China. It was the army of the people in the Guangdong-Ganzhou-Hunan border region. Since its founding in Andun in January 1949 and throughout the three years of the Liberation War, under the leadership of the Central Committee of the CPC, the CPC Central Committee’s Hong Kong Branch, and the South China Branch, and with strong support from the people of the Guangdong-Ganzhou-Hunan border region, this unit mobilized the masses to extensively carry out guerrilla warfare. Indomitable and valiant in battle, it crushed multiple attacks and large-scale “mopping-up” operations by enemy forces, endured the severe test of brutal struggle, achieved major victory after major victory in combat, and established a liberated area with a population of over 4 million spanning thousands of square miles. It liberated vast rural areas and many towns in the border region. The combat forces grew from small and weak to large and strong, expanding from just over 400 troops at the beginning of the Liberation War to more than 38,000. After its establishment in Andun, the Guangdong-Ganzhou-Hunan Border Column, together with the Fujian-Guangdong-Ganzhou-Hunan Border Column, liberated vast areas of southwestern Fujian and eastern Guangdong, establishing a liberated area that stretched for thousands of miles, and successfully accomplished the task of building a strategic base for the liberation of Guangdong. Subsequently, it cooperated with the advancing field armies to pursue and eliminate remaining enemy forces, liberating the entire territory of Guangdong and making immortal contributions to the founding of New China.
In August 2003, the Guangdong-Ganzhou-Hunan Border Column Memorial Park (hereinafter referred to as the Memorial Park) was built in Qingshan’ao, Andun Town, the birthplace of the Border Column. The main entrance of the Memorial Park features an inscription of the park’s name penned by Liang Weilin, former Chairman of the Guangdong Provincial Political Consultative Conference and former Deputy Political Commissar of the Border Column. The overall planning of the Memorial Park integrates natural landscapes with cultural attractions, leisure and entertainment with traditional education, project innovation with environmental improvement, and the creation of a red tourism highlight with the promotion of socioeconomic development. While fully reflecting the glorious history of the Border Column, it incorporates modern design concepts, establishing a revolutionary historical memorial site that combines CPC history, patriotic education, and red tourism.
The park includes a Revolutionary Martyrs Monument, the Fei’e’zui Eight Martyrs Memorial Pavilion, the Guangdong-Ganzhou-Hunan Border Column Memorial Square, the Veterans Memorial Forest, the Historical Exhibition Corridor, the former site of the Guangdong-Ganzhou-Hunan Border Column Headquarters, and the former site of the Dongjiang First Detachment Headquarters.
Revolutionary Heroes Monument: Standing 18.8 meters tall, the monument’s shape symbolizes abundant fruit, signifying the passing on of the revolutionary spirit from generation to generation. The square base measures 5.8 meters in diameter. The monument faces south and is situated north-to-south. The front of the base is inscribed with the gilded name “Revolutionary Heroes Monument,” written by Ye Xuanping, former Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference. The north side briefly recounts the development and revolutionary history of the Guangdong-Ganzhou-Hunan Border Column. Except for the front, the other three sides of the monument are surrounded by pine and cypress trees, symbolizing everlasting remembrance and eternal vitality. The monument platform is enclosed by railings, with a rice-patterned marble surface. From a distance, the monument stands majestically and impressively.

They suffered tragic deaths with their stomachs slashed open and heads severed. The pavilion covers an area of 24.8 square meters and is approximately 6.5 meters tall.
Sculpture Group: Serving as the symbolic image of the Border Column revolutionary heroes, the group consists of three sculptures—a flag bearer, a soldier, and a farmer—representing the unity of military and civilians, courageous resistance against the enemy, and the indomitable spirit of fighting for China’s liberation until the very end. The sculpture base is a cube, covering an area of 11 square meters, with the entire group standing 4.2 meters tall.
Memorial Archway: Designed by the Huidong County Planning Bureau and constructed by Hubei Yinzu Garden Ancient Architecture Company, a company certified under the ISO9001 international quality system.
