Baiqing Building (Former Site of the Dongjiang Special Committee of the CPC, the Dongjiang Revolutionary Committee, and the Headquarters of the Red 2nd Regiment) is a cultural relic protection unit of Guangdong Province.

The former site of the Dongjiang Special Committee of the CPC, the Dongjiang Revolutionary Committee, and the headquarters of the Red 2nd Regiment is located at Baiqing Building in Baiyanghu, Zhongdong Village, Gaotan Town, Huidong County. It is one of the main structures within the Zhongdong heritage site complex, which served as the rear base of the Hailuhuizhi Revolutionary Base Area.

In May 1927, following the First Armed Uprising of Dongjiang, revolutionary armed forces from the four counties of Hui (丰), Lu (丰), Hui (阳), and Zi (金) voluntarily withdrew from their respective county towns to concentrate in Zhongdong in order to preserve their strength. While preparing to organize the Second Armed Uprising of Dongjiang, the Dongjiang Special Committee of the CPC relocated from Hailuhu to Zhongdong and operated out of Baiqing Building, with Peng Pai serving as the secretary and Zhang Shanming as acting secretary. Between August and September of the same year, the Dongjiang Revolutionary Committee was established with Huang Yong as its chairman, and it also moved into Baiqing Building. In mid-October, over 1,000 remaining troops from the Nanchang Uprising entered Zhongdong. Under the leadership of the Dongjiang Special Committee of the CPC, they were reorganized into the 2nd Regiment of the Chinese Workers’ and Peasants’ Revolutionary Army (later known as the Red 2nd Regiment), with its headquarters also stationed at Baiqing Building. Dong Lang served as regimental commander, Yan Changyi as the party representative, and Wang Bei as chief of staff. In March 1928, after the land revolution in Gaotan suffered setbacks, Baiqing Building was burned down by Kuomintang troops. In October 1929, after the establishment of the 49th Red Army Regiment, a thatched office was set up on the ruins of Baiqing Building.

In the winter of 2002, the governments of Huizhou City and Huidong County restored Baiqing Building on its original site and using its original foundation, reconstructing it to its former appearance. The restored building now features additional exhibition content, including displays of cultural relics in the bedrooms of leaders such as Zhang Shanming, Dong Lang, Yan Changyi, Wang Bei, and Liu Qinxī, as well as in the guard room, kitchen, and storeroom. Corresponding displays on the walls of the upper and lower halls and the side rooms depict organizational structures, portraits and profiles of leaders, images of relics, and more. A visiting corridor has been set up inside the building, showcasing the history of Baiqing Building through calligraphy, paintings, and photography. It has now become a renowned patriotic education base in Huizhou.

Baiqing Building bears witness to the armed struggles in the Dongjiang region and holds significant value for cultural relic preservation and research. It provides physical evidence for the study of Guangdong’s revolutionary struggle history. In 2004, it was designated as a cultural relic protection unit of Huidong County by the Huidong County People’s Government, and in 2010, it was listed as a provincial-level cultural relic protection unit by the People’s Government of Guangdong Province.

Zhongdong Village: Zhongdong Village is under the jurisdiction of Gaotan Town, Huidong County. It is located at the junction of five counties—Hui (丰), Lu (丰), Hui (东), Zi (金), and Wu (华)—and is 112 kilometers from Huidong County, 45 kilometers from Hui County, and 50 kilometers from Zi County. Covering a total area of 22.07 square kilometers with a population of approximately 890, Zhongdong Village is historically known as the “Red Capital of Dongjiang” in the revolutionary history of the region. Today, the restored Baiqing Building—the former site of the Dongjiang Special Committee of the CPC, the Dongjiang Revolutionary Committee, and the Red 2nd Regiment Headquarters—stands solemn and majestic.
