The Huidong County Museum is located on Guangshan Road (National Highway 324) in Pingshan Town, the county seat of Huidong County, backed by Qiliaoshan Mountain and facing Nanhu Lake. Zip code: 516300. The museum was established in March 1984 and is affiliated with the Huidong County Culture Bureau. Construction of the new building started in 1986 and was completed in October 1989. It covers an area of 5,385 square meters with a floor space of 1,200 square meters. Facilities include an exhibition building, office building, and cultural relics storage. The main exhibition building is laid out in an “E” shape, divided into four exhibition halls. The walls are adorned with green-yellow glass mosaic tiles, it features orange-yellow glazed tiles and polished wooden flooring, and is designed as a garden-style building imitating Qing Dynasty architecture.

The first exhibition hall displays 180 historical relics, introducing artifacts from the Neolithic Age to the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Exhibits include stone tools, pottery, porcelain, bronze ware, ironware, jade artifacts, among others. Among them are locally unearthed stone adzes and axes, a rare bronze spear from the Spring and Autumn period decorated with lozenge patterns in Guangdong, Han Dynasty pottery bottles, Ming Dynasty kiln porcelain, Song Dynasty hoarded square-holed coins, as well as fruit pit carvings such as the "Hundred Monkeys," other carved artworks, and calligraphy and paintings by renowned artists of the Qing Dynasty.

The second exhibition hall displays 110 revolutionary relics. Huidong was one of the red bases during the Great Revolution period. As early as 1922, Peng Pai, a leader of the Peasant Movement, personally came to Huidong to ignite the spark of the peasant movement, and the Shuikou Township Peasant Association was established that year. In the spring of 1923, the Gaotan District Peasant Association was founded and a peasant self-defense army was established. In 1927, the Dongjiang Special Committee of the Communist Party of China and the Dongjiang Revolutionary Committee were based in Zhongdong, Huidong. Troops from the Nanchang Uprising moved south and were reorganized into the Red Second Army at Zhongdong. In November 1927, the Gaotan District Soviet Government was established. During the cultural relics survey, a large number of valuable revolutionary relics were collected, including a full-body 3-inch photo of Peng Pai taken during his activities in Huidong in 1922, the 1923 Gaotan District Peasant Association (plowshare) flag, association badges, proclamations, weapons repaired at the Zhongdong Red Army Arsenal in 1927, medical instruments from the Zhongdong Red Army Hospital, lead type from the printing house of the Dongjiang Special Committee at Zhongdong, a Mei Moshi lantern from the Nanchang Uprising troops, the Gaotan District Soviet Government’s Great Wall emblem, and official seals. Additionally, a proclamation issued by the National Revolutionary Army’s Eastern Expeditionary Army Headquarters, signed by Chiang Kai-shek and Wang Jingwei during the Great Revolution period, was also collected.

The third exhibition hall displays 60 folk cultural relics, providing a brief introduction to the origin, evolution, and development of local production tools, daily utensils, and folk customs.

The fourth exhibition hall hosts temporary exhibitions. Past exhibitions have included the “Children’s Love Exhibition,” the “Huidong County Construction Achievements Exhibition,” and calligraphy works by contemporary masters such as Qi Gong.

The museum currently houses 860 collections and 9,800 ancient coins. It has compiled the “Huidong County Cultural Relics Annals” and “Huidong Cultural Heritage.”
