Shangwei Ancient Fort is located in Xinlou Village, Tangnan Town, Fengshun, and was first built in 1652. After 18 years of construction, it was completed in 1670, boasting a history of over 340 years. It is a famous castle-style ancient building in Tangnan Town and a residential architectural complex integrating both Chaoshan and Hakka styles. The fort is 4 kilometers from Fengshun County and 25 kilometers from the center of Jieyang City. Covering an area of more than 18,000 square meters, its walls were constructed using 108 blocks based on the 36 Heavenly Generals and 72 Earthly Fiends. The fort is square-shaped, with a surrounding drainage ditch outside the city walls, and its terrain is referred to as resembling a "crab in the shade." Historically, Shangwei Ancient Fort produced over 10 notable figures, including Luo Dagang, known as the “Fenwang” (Dashing King) of the Taiping Rebellion. The Yilao Hermitage was built in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties and served as the retreat of Luo Wanjie, a native of Yongfeng Village, Longyan, Tangnan Town, who served as an Assistant Minister in the Ministry of Personnel during the late Ming, and was one of the “Seven Sages of Chaozhou Bamboo Grove.” Shangwei Ancient Fort is connected to nearby natural hot springs, the renowned Jigong Temple in Fengshun, Qiniang Hermitage, and Yilao Hermitage, forming a contiguous area with considerable tourism value.
