Longshang Ancient Village

Longshang Ancient Village is a cultural heritage site protected at the municipal level in Meizhou City.

Longshang Ancient Village is located in Xinpu Garden Village, Tangnan Town. It was founded during the Jingyan era of the Southern Song Dynasty by Luo An, the founding ancestor of the Luo clan in Tangnan, covering an area of 16,373 square meters, and has a history of over 700 years. Enclosed by city walls, Longshang Ancient Village boasts a distinctive traditional architectural style. The large-scale village complex includes three streets, six alleys, twelve ancestral halls, and seventy-two enclosed courtyards, and at its peak, was home to over 4,000 residents. The “Luo Ancestral Hall,” built in the 31st year of the Ming Dynasty’s Jiajing reign (1552), is the best-preserved structure within the village. The entire ancestral hall complex covers a construction area of 1,479 square meters and consists of a main hall, middle hall, and entrance hall. Since its establishment, the village has produced many notable individuals, earning it the reputation of “three scholars from one family, two military coordinators and one imperial official.” According to the Fengshun County Annals, Longshang Ancient Village has produced three civil and military jinshi (advanced scholars), and nineteen civil and military juren (successful candidates in the imperial examinations).

In January 2014, it was designated as a municipal-level cultural heritage site by the Meizhou Municipal People’s Government.

Tangnan Town: Located at the southernmost tip of Meizhou City in Guangdong Province, Tangnan Town is known as the “southern gateway” of Meizhou. It is about 5 kilometers from the county seat, 25 kilometers from Jieyang City, and accessible via the Guangzhou-Meizhou-Shantou Expressway and railway, as well as National Highway 206 and Provincial Road S225, making transportation relatively convenient. The town covers a total area of 52 square kilometers, with 15,000 mu (approximately 1,000 hectares) of cultivated land, including 8,500 mu of paddy fields and 6,500 mu of dry land, averaging 0.34 mu of farmland per capita. Administratively, Tangnan Town governs 8 village committees and 1 neighborhood committee, with a total population of 44,478, all of whom are Han Chinese and speak the Teochew dialect.
