Yongqing Building in Fengshun

Yongqing Building in Fengshun is located in Guanxi Village, Tanshan District, Fengshun County. It was built in the 61st year of the Kangxi reign during the Qing Dynasty (1722) by Ke Gong, the 11th-generation ancestor of the local Zhang family. This circular Hakka earthen enclosed building has a perimeter of 120 meters and only one main entrance. The door is 2.43 meters high, 1.49 meters wide, and 1.8 meters thick. The three carved stone characters for “Yongqing Building” are embedded at the top of the door. Inside the enclosure, there are 12 gate towers, all two stories high, covered with large roofs and gray tiles. The beams, floors, and railings inside the buildings are made of wood. The rooms on each floor vary in width from front to back, forming a trapezoidal shape. There are a total of 26 rooms, designed for multi-generational family living. The building includes halls, courtyards, sky wells, a well, toilets, and a pestle mill. Today, part of it remains residential, while a small section has fallen into disrepair. There are three similar circular Hakka earthen enclosed buildings in Guanxi Township.
