Former Site of the Red Fourth Army Headquarters in Fengshun

The former site of the Red Fourth Army Headquarters in Fengshun is a cultural relic protection unit of Guangdong Province.

The former site of the Red Fourth Army Headquarters is located at Jianlongju, Matu Village, Longgang Township, Fengshun County. It was originally the residence of the Rao family and was built in the late Qing Dynasty. The structure is a walled compound with a three-courtyard, two-wing layout, constructed from brick and wood, covering an area of 714 square meters.

On October 28, 1929, Zhu De led more than 6,000 soldiers from the First, Second, and Third Columns of the Red Fourth Army from western Fujian via Meizhou into Fengshun to establish a revolutionary base. The army headquarters was set up in Matu Village, with Commander Zhu De staying at Jianlongju and the political department stationed at Xingzhen Building. The Red Army stayed here for three days and two nights. When leaving the village, they left behind over 110 soldiers, 100 rifles, 2 machine guns, 1 recoilless gun, and 20 military horses to help develop local worker-peasant armed forces. Later, the Dongjiang Special Committee supplemented these personnel with over 30 political cadres and organized them into a special operations company, which was placed under the leadership of the local Red Army.

Slogans written by the Red Fourth Army can still be found on the walls of the site today.

In 1983, the People's Government of Fengshun County designated it as a cultural relic protection unit. In 2012, the People's Government of Guangdong Province listed it as part of the seventh batch of Guangdong Provincial Cultural Relic Protection Units.
