Introduction: Located south of Johannesburg, Gold Reef City is a theme park built on the site of a former gold mine and is one of Johannesburg’s most famous tourist attractions. The park authentically recreates the architecture of the Gold Reef City during the gold rush era from the late 18th century to the early 19th century, featuring buildings that reflect the prosperity of the time such as banks, post offices, police stations, restaurants, and bars. Visitors can take a leisurely ride on a vintage steam train as they explore these historic buildings, feeling as if they have been transported back to the 18th century. The mines of Gold Reef City once reached depths of 3,200 meters underground, and today visitors can descend up to 220 meters to see the actual gold mining operations from that time. They can also witness the real process of gold smelting and coin minting.

The park also offers a variety of amusement rides for visitors’ entertainment, with a large aerial swing resembling a “pirate ship” being especially popular among teenagers.
