Key treaties such as the Treaty of Shimonoseki, the Sino-Japanese Peace Treaty, and the Cairo Declaration on display at Taipei Guest House

To commemorate the 60th anniversary of the enforcement of the “Sino-Japanese Peace Treaty” (Sino-Japanese Treaty), which marked the end of the state of war between the Republic of China and Japan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National History Museum are holding a special historical exhibition from today until August 19 at Taipei Guest House. The exhibition will display original copies of key historical documents including the “Sino-Japanese Peace Treaty,” as well as closely related treaties such as the “Treaty of Shimonoseki,” the “Cairo Declaration,” the “Potsdam Proclamation,” and the “Japanese Instrument of Surrender.”

The “Sino-Japanese Peace Treaty” was signed on April 28, 1952, and came into effect on August 5 of the same year. The main contents of the treaty include: Japan renouncing all rights, title, and claims to Taiwan, the Pescadores Islands, as well as the Spratly Islands and the Paracel Islands; all treaties, conventions, and agreements concluded between China and Japan prior to December 9, 1941 (the date the government officially declared war on Japan) being nullified as a result of the war; and the people of Taiwan and the Pescadores regaining Republic of China nationality.

The exhibition will be open to the public free of charge from August 6 to August 19, for a total of 14 days, between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM. Taipei Guest House is a national historic site, and bringing food or drinks into the building or its grounds is prohibited. All exhibited
