Ahmed Shawqi Museum

The Ahmed Shawqi Museum is located in the Giza district of Cairo and was established to honor the Egyptian poet Ahmed Shawqi. Ahmed Shawqi, a renowned Egyptian poet and one of the pioneers of modern Egyptian literature, is hailed as the “Prince of Poets,” and he introduced the epic genre into Arabic writing.

The building that houses the Ahmed Shawqi Museum was once his residence and was opened to the public as a museum in 1977. It is well known for its bronze sculpture of the poet. The first floor of the museum served as Shawqi’s study and contains 332 books, letters, and manuscripts, many of which feature verses he wrote on blank paper or book covers. The second floor was his bedroom, preserved just as it was, with wallpaper on the walls that has been there for over 80 years and still retains its original color. The room’s furniture, including the desk, chair, dressing table, and photographs, is arranged neatly, allowing visitors to imagine Shawqi’s daily life and creative environment. In addition, visitors can also explore the room of Shawqi’s wife, featuring vintage furniture and elegant tables. The second floor also has a dedicated room showcasing the various medals, honors, and gifts Shawqi received, including his evening dress uniform.

To illustrate Shawqi’s literary achievements, a special room displays his literary works, featuring 713 manuscripts and drafts, as well as oil paintings from his family’s collection and photographs of the poet.
