Gongger Grassland

Gongger Grassland is located in the territory of Hexigten Banner, to the east of Dalainuori Town, 47 kilometers from Jingpeng Town. It is the Inner Mongolian grassland closest to Beijing, blending natural scenery with Mongolian culture. The grassland here is lush and picturesque, crisscrossed by several rivers and dotted with lakes. The three sister lakes—Dalinor, Ganggenor, and Duolunor—are connected by the Shali River, Liangzi River, Gongger River, and Haolai River, forming a beautiful necklace around the Gongger Grassland. In spring, wildflowers dot the landscape, and migratory birds such as red-crowned cranes, white swans, and wild geese gather here in large numbers. In summer, the grass stretches endlessly under the blue sky, and the lakes shimmer like sapphires. In autumn, dark green mushroom rings sprawl across the plains. In winter, the vast land turns into a silvery white expanse. The unique grassland ethnic culture and culinary traditions here allow visitors to experience the boundless vastness of the steppe. The grassland boasts abundant flora and fauna, with over 500 species of wild plants, more than 300 species of wild animals, and over 130 species of birds. As you walk across the grassland, you may spot rare birds and adorable small animals such as wild rabbits and deer. In the northeastern part of the grassland, there is also a rare stand of red pine forest, one of only two remaining in the world, known as the "sacred tree" or "living fossil."

　The lush, flat, and majestic Gongger Grassland spans over 4.8 million mu, accounting for 18.8% of the banner’s total natural grassland. The grassland is dominated by alkaline grasses and needlegrass, mixed with feathergrass, cleistogenes, purple alfalfa, lentils, and wild vetch. The grass grows to a height of 30–40 centimeters. The area is rich in produce such as white mushrooms, daylilies, and medicinal herbs like astragalus, licorice, peony, and sophora flavescens. Gongger Grassland is home to over 500 species of wild plants and dozens of wild animals including roe deer, deer, wolves, lynxes, and otters. There are 133 species of birds, including swans, waterfowl, larks, and herons. The grassland is rich in water and vegetation, with meandering rivers and serene lakes. The three sister lakes—Dalinor, Ganggenor, and Duolunor—are connected by the Shali River, Liangzi River, Gongger River, and Haolai River, forming a beautiful necklace around the grassland.

In spring, the grassland is covered with fresh green grass, blooming cattails, and dotted daylilies, while migratory birds such as red-crowned cranes, white swans, and wild geese gather here in large numbers.

In summer, the grassland is a sea of endless green, with fragrant wildflowers spreading freely like an ocean of blossoms, and the lake waters shimmer like scattered silver lamps under the blue sky.

In autumn, as the heat fades and the autumn wind rises, the vibrant flowers become even more enchanting. The sky resembles a dome, with drifting white clouds, and the green waves and floral seas are adorned with mysterious dark green mushroom rings that showcase the boundless wonders of nature. As you follow these magical circles in search of tender white mushrooms, the excitement will transport you back to your childhood.

In winter, the grassland is blanketed in silvery white, with distant mountains and nearby plains all covered in snow. Gazing into the distance, the vast expanse of white offers a transcendent feeling of being in a heavenly paradise.

Dalainuori Town: Dalainuori Town is a purely pastoral town located in the northern part of Hexigten Banner. It borders Baiyinchagan Sumu, Darhanula Sumu, Sanyi Township, and Haolaihuore Township, covering a total area of 2.33 million mu, of which 1.5 million mu are usable grassland. As of the end of June 2003, the town had 136,000 head of livestock, 7 sub-districts (gaqa), 1 residential committee, 47 duilongs, 1,380 households, and a population of 6,418, including 4,790 pastoral residents.
