Kopaonik Mountain

Kopaonik Mountain, also translated as "Kobanik Mountain," is located in southeastern Serbia, situated between the South Morava River and the Ibar River, extending approximately 64 kilometers from northwest to southeast. The mountain is primarily composed of crystalline schist, granite, serpentinite, and gabbro. Its granite peak, Pančićev Vrh, is located 20.8 kilometers southwest of Brus, with an elevation of 2,017 meters. The mountain is covered with forests of pine, spruce, oak, and beech. The area below 1,600 meters in elevation consists of alpine meadows used as summer pastures. Magmatic rocks are widely distributed here, along with deposits of lead, zinc, iron, chromium, gold, arsenic, and copper. The soil is fertile.

Many national parks are built among these beautifully scenic mountains. Kopaonik Peak is one of the highest mountains in Europe and Serbia’s largest tourist destination. It is covered in snow for seven months of the year and features 44 kilometers of ski slopes and 20 kilometers of ski lifts. It can be reached by car in just a few hours from Belgrade.
