To commemorate the 200th anniversaries of opera masters Wagner and Verdi, this year’s festival has meticulously produced and heavily invested in classic operas. Wagner’s one-act opera “Das Rheingold” will grandly open the festival. As the prelude to his monumental “Ring Cycle,” this unprecedented opera centers on the gold of the Rhine River, presenting a spectacular celestial battle of wits among the gods. This will be followed by Verdi’s four-act opera “Aida,” performed by the Latvian National Opera in collaboration with the Macao Orchestra. This celebrated and grand opera, known for its magnificent staging and enchanting exoticism, has remained enduringly popular and is considered a miracle in the opera world. Additionally, Mozart’s one-act comic opera “Bastien und Bastienne” will be performed at the exquisite and elegant Dom Pedro V Theatre, offering audiences a delightful and sweet musical dessert. The festival will conclude perfectly with the American Broadway classic musical “Miss Saigon.”

Internationally acclaimed Korean violinist Kyung-Wha Chung, hailed as the “new queen of the modern violin art kingdom,” is known for her crisp and lingering tone. This festival will feature her solo violin recital, showcasing the exquisite realm of violin artistry. The historic Vienna Boys' Choir will also return as honored guests, bringing “Songs by the Danube” performed by these “singing angels.” Their divine child voices are lively yet elegant, truly breathtaking. The world-renowned Portuguese Gulbenkian Orchestra captivates audiences with a repertoire that blends classical and modern elements and a versatile performance style.

The festival seamlessly integrates world heritage sites with masterful music, blending art and melody. The Chapel of St. Dominic (Rose Hall) serves as the perfect stage for sacred works, where the Latvian National Opera will perform one of the most magnificent religious pieces of the 19th century, “Requiem,” showcasing grandeur. The Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra will clothe the chapel in delightful music with their program “Musical Intoxication.” The Tin Fona Mi Xiang Troupe from the Republic of Serbia will bring the radiance of the sanctuary to life with “Sacred Heart Melodies.” “Aria & Spirit” will be staged at the Mandarin’s House, combining Portugal’s national treasure, Fado, with Macao’s intangible cultural heritage, “Nanyin storytelling”—a fascinating fusion of remarkable charm.
