Belgrade

Belgrade is the capital and largest city of Serbia, located at the confluence of the Sava and Danube rivers in northern Serbia, where the Pannonian Plain meets the Balkan Peninsula.

The most famous museum in Belgrade is the National Museum of Serbia, built in 1844, which houses a collection of over 400,000 exhibits including many foreign masterpieces, such as the famous Miroslav Gospel. The Belgrade Military Museum is very popular with foreign tourists, featuring the wreckage of the U.S. Air Force F-117 stealth fighter shot down by the former Yugoslav Army, as well as over 25,000 military exhibits dating from the Roman Empire to the present. The Museum of African Art in Serbia is one of the most unusual museums in Belgrade, established during the era of socialist solidarity with underdeveloped Third World countries.

Since 2000, with the restoration of Serbia’s diplomatic relations with Western Europe and the United States, Belgrade has gradually become a tourist destination for foreign visitors. The city’s historic neighborhoods and architecture are its most attractive features, including the National Museum of Serbia, the National Theatre in Belgrade, Zemun, Nikola Tesla Square, Kalemegdan Fortress, the Serbian Parliament Building, St. Sava Temple, and the Tomb of Josip Broz Tito.
