St. Sava Temple

St. Sava Temple is an Eastern Orthodox church located in Belgrade. It is the largest Eastern Orthodox church on the Balkan Peninsula and also the largest in the world. The temple was built to commemorate St. Sava, a prominent figure in medieval Serbia and the founder of the Serbian Orthodox Church.

St. Sava Temple is the largest memorial structure in Belgrade, covering a total area of 3,500 square meters. It features the Byzantine architectural style commonly used in Eastern Orthodox churches. The entire structure is built from pure white marble, whose solid and gleaming texture ensures the stability and grandeur of the temple while also symbolizing the dignity, sanctity, and inviolability of the Church. The central dome rises 70 meters high, and the main body of the temple is designed in the shape of a nearly equal-armed Greek cross, measuring 91 meters from east to west and 81 meters from north to south. This gives the temple a perfectly symmetrical, neat, and exceptionally majestic appearance from all angles. Four bell towers are evenly embedded at the four right-angle corners of the cross shape, integrating harmoniously with the main building to create a truly spectacular sight.
