Rushka National Park

Established in 1960, Rushka National Park covers an area of 22,000 hectares. Within the park lies Mount Rushka, which stands 539 meters high and stretches from east to west. The higher parts of Mount Rushka are covered in dense forests, while the valleys are home to orchards and historic vineyards. Rushka National Park is home to Europe’s largest linden tree population, with over 700 species of medicinal plants growing within it.

Rushka National Park serves as the venue for wine tasting events, which are held annually and have become a very popular activity, attracting many participants. The park also offers opportunities for picnicking, along with hiking, cycling, hunting, and fishing. Traces of prehistoric human habitation dating back to the Neolithic Age can be found here, and before the Roman conquest, the area was inhabited by the Illyrians and Celts. The park is home to 16 Orthodox monasteries, known for their ancient architectural styles and frescoes.
