The Museum of African Art is located in Belgrade, the capital of Serbia. Established in 1977, it is the only museum in Serbia dedicated to African art, and most of its collection originates from West Africa, making it one of the country’s most important museums.

The Museum of African Art is one of the most unusual museums in Belgrade. It was established during the era when socialists were forging strong ties with underdeveloped third-world countries. The museum focuses on African traditions and cultures and is committed to collecting African artworks, especially African masks — the museum’s largest and most influential collection. Currently, the museum houses around 1,700 pieces, gathered with the help of Croatian diplomats. The collection includes masks, photographs, paintings, and handicrafts.
