Novi Sad, also known as "Novi Sava", is located north of the capital Belgrade. It is the capital and economic and cultural center of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina, as well as the administrative center of the South Bačka District. As Serbia’s second-largest city, it is an important university town and is often referred to as the “Athens of Serbia”.

Novi Sad has a relaxed atmosphere and presents a typical multi-ethnic tapestry of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina, known for its diverse cultural elements. The Danube River flows through the southern part of the city, nurturing its people, shaping its landscape, and influencing its character. In the 19th century, the city was the cultural center of Serbia, and it remains the country’s second-largest cultural hub today, home to numerous museums and galleries. The Museum of Vojvodina is a museum dedicated to art and natural history, housing a collection of up to 400,000 items. At the Museum of the City of Novi Sad, visitors can explore exhibitions on urban life from the first half of the 18th century to the mid-20th century in the “Cultural History Hall”. The Gallery of Serbian Painting boasts a collection donated by Raik Mamuzić.

Novi Sad boasts a vibrant cultural life, regularly hosting various cultural festivals such as the Stanislavski Theatre Festival, Dragon Children’s Dance Festival, Novi Sad Music Festival, International Jazz Festival, City Film Festival, International Festival of Video-Art-Video Media, International Agricultural Fair, and EXIT Festival — the largest music festival in Eastern Europe.
