Located in the heart of Serbia, Kragujevac is the fourth-largest city in the country, following Belgrade, Novi Sad, and Niš. It serves as the capital of Šumadija District and is the largest city in the Šumadija region. The city is an economic, cultural, educational, healthcare, and political hub for the Šumadija region and its surrounding areas.

The architecture of Kragujevac is deeply influenced by two major styles: traditional Turkish architecture and 19th-century Vienna Secession style, alongside the presence of modern architectural designs. The Museum of the City of Kragujevac consists of an archaeological section with 100,000 exhibits, an art gallery with 1,000 pieces, a folklore section, and a history section dedicated to Kragujevac and the cities of Šumadija. The Old Foundry Museum showcases a century and a half of industrial development in Serbia and Kragujevac.

Among the many cultural and historical landmarks in Kragujevac, the most representative include the Old Church, the Residence of Prince Miloš Obrenović, the Parliament Building of the Principality of Serbia, the Palace of Prince Miloš, the location of the City Court, the Amižin Mansion, and the Kragujevac October Memorial Square.
