Novi Pazar is nestled in a valley in southwestern Serbia, within the Raška District. It serves as the cultural center of the Bosniaks in Serbia and is the largest city in the Sandžak region. As a major economic and cultural hub of Sandžak, the city is graced by rivers such as the Raška River, contributing to its picturesque and charming city.

Novi Pazar boasts numerous historical monuments. Nearby, the Serbian Orthodox Monastery of Sopoćani was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979, together with Stari Ras (the medieval capital of the Serbian Kingdom during the reign of Stefan Nemanja I), under the name “Stari Ras and Sopoćani.” The Church of Saint Peter, dating back to the 9th century, is also a World Heritage Site. The Đurđevi Stupovi Monastery, built in the 12th century, had long been in ruins but underwent restoration in the late 20th century. The city is also home to the largest mosque in the Balkans, constructed in the 16th century. In addition, Novi Pazar features non-Ottoman-era buildings, including a 17th-century caravanserai, 15th-century Turkish baths, and Ottoman-period city walls.
