Mir Castle Complex

Mir Castle is located in Minsk, the capital of Belarus. Built in the late 15th century, it is one of the most outstanding examples of castle architecture in Central Europe. Its style blends Gothic, Baroque, and Renaissance elements, creating an extraordinary historical monument.

Initially, Mir Castle emerged in the world with a striking Gothic form, but over time, it underwent continuous additions and renovations—first adopting a neat Renaissance style, then evolving into an opulent Baroque aesthetic. After nearly a century of abandonment and severe damage during the Napoleonic Wars, it was reconstructed again in the late 19th century. Beyond incorporating additional styles to the original design, new buildings were also constructed around the castle, transforming the area into a park.

Its current form stands as a testament to the often-turbulent history it has endured. The castle is square in shape, with towers at each corner. The fifth tower features a drawbridge and iron grille for defense against attacks. The architectural evolution of Mir Castle also reflects a period of unrest in European history.
