Cathedral of the Holy Spirit

The Cathedral of the Holy Spirit is located in Minsk, the capital of Belarus. It is an important center of Orthodox Christian activity in Minsk and one of the city's most valuable churches.

The Cathedral of the Holy Spirit was originally built in 1633 and completed in 1642, featuring Baroque architectural style. It was initially the main church of a Catholic nunnery. In 1860, the church was converted into an Orthodox church; in 1870, the Saint Spirit Monastery was established there; in 1918, the monastery was closed and worship activities in the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit were also prohibited. The church was turned into a training facility and later became an archive. In 1943, the Orthodox worship services resumed, and the monastery was reinstated. In 1947, a large Orthodox cross was installed atop the church.

In the first half of the 1950s, the interior of the church underwent renovation. From the late 1970s to the early 1980s, the final restoration was carried out, maintaining its current appearance. The cathedral houses several religious treasures, and the iconostasis features many remarkable icons, such as the Icon of the Minsk Mother of God.
