Mazyr is a city in the Gomel Region of southern Belarus, situated on the banks of the Pripyat River, approximately 100 kilometers northwest of Chernobyl. The city is known as the "oil refining center" of Belarus, home to the country’s largest oil refinery, which processes 18 million metric tons of oil annually.

Mazyr is one of the oldest cities in Belarus, first mentioned in the mid-12th century. It is now home to the Mazyr State Pedagogical University. The city is also recognized as the modern rock music capital of the Gomel Region and has been hosting an international music festival since 2003, featuring performances by over 50 bands and attracting music enthusiasts from around the world.
