Polotsk

Polotsk is a city in the Vitebsk Region of Belarus, located on the banks of the Western Dvina River. Historically, it was the center of Belarus and the only Ruthenian principality that did not pay tribute to the Golden Horde after the Mongol destruction of Kievan Rus'. During the Cold War, it housed an air force base, and now it is home to Polotsk Airport.

St. Sophia Cathedral is the symbol of independence in Polotsk. Originally built in 1044 and reconstructed multiple times afterward, it is the oldest church in Belarus. Due to numerous wars, destructions, and structural reconstructions, the cathedral no longer retains its original form. However, St. Sophia Cathedral remains a national heritage forever recorded in Belarusian history, laying the foundation for the development of architectural art. In addition, visitors can explore the Polotsk Main Square, the Lutheran Church, the Andrew Bobola Church, and others.
