Kaunas
Introduction Kaunas has a long history, being a populated area as early as the 9th century. The city was established in 1280 and began to develop during the reign of Grand Duke Vytautas. It was granted self-governing rights in 1408. - After the Crusades, commerce flourished here, leading to the formation of the Market Square. From 1919 to 1940, it served as a temporary capital.
Features
Lithuania’s second-largest city, located in central Lithuania at the confluence of the country’s two largest rivers, the Nemunas and the Neris. Tourism and transportation are well developed, and the Baltic Highway, which connects Northern and Central Europe, runs through the city.
