International Musicians Gather for Macao’s World Heritage Music Feast – Tickets Now on Sale

Traveling abroad to attend concerts has become one of the popular themed travel options. Macao, just a 90-minute flight from Taiwan, hosts an annual series of music festivals held in its UNESCO World Heritage buildings, attracting many tourists to experience this rare World Heritage music event. The 26th Macao International Music Festival will take place from October 5 to November 7. This year, musicians from over 10 countries will perform a total of 23 shows at major theaters in Macao and landmarks such as the Fortaleza do Monte, including the renowned Broadway musical "Peter Pan" and "Soul. Spirit" performed by Aurea, Portugal’s 2011 Golden Globe Award winner for Best Soloist, at the Fortaleza do Monte. Tickets for the performances are now available for purchase.

This year’s festival program includes opera, musicals, symphonic music, as well as choral and chamber music performances in contemporary, pop, and jazz styles, allowing audiences to fully enjoy the diverse experience of Chinese and Western music and cultural exchange. Among them, the family-friendly Broadway musical "Peter Pan," which has been nominated for both Emmy and Tony Awards twice, is hugely popular for its theme of "pursuing dreams and daring to adventure." The show will star acclaimed Broadway actress and Tony Award nominee Cathy Rigby, with exquisite and lavish stage props that vividly recreate Captain Hook, the man-eating crocodile, and the fantastical scenery of Neverland.

Additionally, the internationally grand and elegant classic opera "Tosca," produced by the team behind Italy’s Puccini Festival, will feature performances by internationally renowned singers, bringing the splendor and charm of opera to life. Another smaller opera, "La Serva Padrona," will be staged at the world heritage-listed Dom Pedro V Theatre, where its witty plot and light-hearted performance, combined with the theatre’s magnificent ambiance, offer audiences a refined and elegant artistic experience.

Music lovers who are enchanted by captivating voices can also enjoy moving performances by singers from around the world for free at the Macao International Music Festival. The Lithuanian Kaunas State Choir will perform "Dear Lithuania" at the Chapel of St. Joseph (Rose Hall); the Fortaleza do Monte will also host "Mysterious Voices" by Teresa Salgueiro, a leading figure in Portuguese world music, as well as "Soul. Spirit" by Aurea, Portugal’s 2011 Golden Globe Award winner for Best Soloist, who will perform with her rich and powerful voice. Meanwhile, the jazz event "Swing at the Fort" will feature multiple Macao and Portuguese jazz bands performing together, showcasing the unique fusion style of Macao and Portuguese music.
