Migratory birds are here！German artist builds colorful birdhouses as "rest stops"

The 7th Guandu International Nature Installation Art Festival begins today. Five invited artists have created works based on the theme “Migratory Birds Are Here.” Their installations are located on the brick walls of old houses along Guandu Old Street, the concrete fences of alleyways, and within Guandu Nature Park. The artworks will be on display until December 30, 2012.

Taiwanese artist Luo Yijun presents "Wings of the Wind" on the red-brick wall of an old house in Guandu Old Street, sending a message that migratory birds love this place. Visitors can start their tour here, then move on to German artist Susanne Roff’s "Rest Stop," where dozens of colorful birdhouses await. These aren’t just for the birds—they also serve as a bridge between people, wildlife, and nature.

The next stop takes you to the water’s edge at Guandu Nature Park, where the wetlands—home to fiddler crabs, mudskippers, fish, shrimp, and shellfish—are a fresh supermarket for migratory birds. The comfortable grassy marshes, muddy flats, and ponds are like five-star hotels for the birds. Just like Korean artist Bonggi Park conveys, the wetlands are a paradise where people and birds can "breathe" and live playfully together. Then step into Lithuanian artist Arvydas Alisanka’s "Eggshell Home" to experience the joy and process of life breaking out of an egg. The final stop is Filipino artist Roger Tibon’s "Migratory Bird Journey," where you can feel the beauty of harmony and coexistence among humans, birds, and the environment—taking off with new life and flying toward a happy land full of memories.
