Traveling abroad to attend concerts has become one of the popular themed travel options. Macau, just about a 90-minute flight from Taiwan, hosts an annual series of music festivals set against the backdrop of its UNESCO World Heritage sites, attracting many visitors to experience this rare World Heritage music event. The 26th Macau International Music Festival will be held from October 5 to November 7. This year, musicians from over 10 countries will perform a total of 23 shows at major theaters in Macau and attractions such as the Fortaleza do Monte, including the famous Broadway musical "Peter Pan" and "Soul.ção" performed by Aurea, the 2011 Portuguese Golden Globe Award winner for Best Soloist, at the Fortaleza do Monte. This year’s festival program includes opera, musicals, symphonic music, as well as choral and chamber music performances in contemporary, pop, and jazz styles, allowing audiences to fully immerse themselves in the diverse experiences of Eastern and Western music and cultural exchange. Among them, the family-friendly Broadway musical "Peter Pan," which has been nominated for both Emmy and Tony Awards twice, is hugely popular for its theme of "chasing dreams and daring to adventure." The show will star acclaimed Broadway actress and Tony Award nominee Cathy Rigby, with elaborate and gorgeous stage props vividly recreating scenes such as Captain Hook, the man-eating crocodile, and the fantastical landscapes of Neverland.
Additionally, the internationally grand and elegant classic opera "Tosca," produced by the team behind Italy’s Puccini Festival, will feature performances by internationally renowned singers, bringing the splendor and charm of opera to life. Another smaller-scale opera, "La Serva Padrona," will be staged at the world heritage-listed Dom Pedro V Theatre, where its witty plot and light-hearted performance, combined with the theatre’s magnificent ambiance, offer audiences a refined and elegant artistic experience.

Music lovers who are enchanted by captivating voices can also enjoy free performances by singers from around the world at the Macau International Music Festival. The Lithuanian Kaunas Chamber Choir will perform "Dear Lithuania" at the Chapel of St. Joseph; the Fortaleza do Monte will also host "Mystical Voices" by Teresa Salgueiro, a top-tier representative of Portuguese world music, as well as performances by Aurea, the 2011 Portuguese Golden Globe Award winner for Best Soloist, who will sing "Soul.ção" with her powerful and resonant voice. Meanwhile, the jazz event "Swing at the Fort" will feature multiple jazz bands from Macau and Portugal, showcasing the unique fusion of Macanese and Portuguese musical styles.
