Attraction Introduction The castle originally had four fortresses, but in history, the flooding of the Neris River destroyed them and caused the collapse of the northern city wall. It is the earliest defensive structure in Lithuania and the only fortress in the country protected by double walls.

Features

Kaunas Castle was built in the 13th century, initially with walls 2 meters thick and 13 meters high. In 1362, [invaders] attacked Kaunas, laying siege to the castle for three weeks before finally breaking through the defenses and destroying the walls. The castle was rebuilt in 1368 with a more robust structure.
