Trakai Castle

Attraction Introduction   This castle was originally built in the late 14th century. Due to years of warfare, only ruins remained. In the 1970s, the government decided to rebuild it, and today the castle has largely been restored to its original appearance. It now serves as a history museum, exhibiting works of arts and crafts, and its reception hall can host concerts. There are also souvenir shops selling souvenirs and stamps.

Features

Trakai Castle is located on an island in Lake Galvė and is the only surviving one among many ancient castles. It is also one of Lithuania’s most famous scenic spots. The castle is built from pink brick and is very beautiful when viewed from afar. Though not large in size, the castle walls are very thick. There are watchtowers around the castle, a moat within the walls, and a small bridge leading to the inner citadel.
