The Vilnius TV Tower was designed by V. Obydovas and constructed under the supervision of K. Balėnas. Construction began on May 31, 1974, and was completed on December 30, 1980. The total weight of the structure is approximately 25,000 to 30,000 metric tons. Its main components include a concrete base, a 190-meter-long hollow reinforced concrete tube, a reinforced concrete saucer, and a 136-meter steel spire. Radio transmitters are located in the lower section of the tower, while the antenna is mounted at the very top.

The Vilnius TV Tower played a significant role in Lithuanian history on January 13, 1991. To prevent the Soviet army from taking over the tower, 14 unarmed civilians were killed and more than 700 were seriously injured. Today, a small museum inside the tower commemorates this historic event.

The observation deck of the Vilnius TV Tower is located at 165 meters above ground and features a café called “Galaxy Path” (Paukščių takas). From here, visitors can enjoy panoramic views of Vilnius and its surroundings. There is also a rotating platform that completes one full rotation every 45 minutes. The high-speed elevator takes only 40 seconds to carry visitors from the ground floor to the observation deck. Additionally, activities such as bungee jumping are available here.
