Grūtas Park

In southern Lithuania, about 130 kilometers southwest of Vilnius and near the Druskininkai spa region, there is a unique park—Grūtas Park—filled with statues of Soviet leaders, a true “Stalin World.”

This Soviet statue park was built with an investment of one million litas by a local millionaire known as the “Mushroom King.” The park houses a total of 86 works by 46 different sculptors, which are generally divided into different zones and scattered throughout the park. Some of the statues depict socialist activists of the time, most of whom were Lithuanian patriots. Others portray communist leaders and thinkers, including statues of Vladimir Ilyich Lenin, Joseph Vissarionovich Stalin, and Karl Heinrich Marx. Additionally, some statues represent figures who were heads of terror operations at the time, such as Felix Edmundovich Dzerzhinsky, the organizer of the then “Cheka.” Most of these statues are made of granite or bronze, with lifelike and vivid imagery, making them quite popular.
