Green Bridge of Lithuania

The Green Bridge is located in Vilnius, Lithuania, spanning the Neris River. It is the oldest bridge in Vilnius and also the city's most important one, connecting the city center with surrounding areas.

The earliest history of the Green Bridge dates back to 1536, when a wooden bridge was constructed. It was burned down in 1655. Between 1827 and 1829, a steel bridge was rebuilt and completed in 1894. It survived World War I but was damaged in 1944. The current bridge was built in 1952, measuring 102.9 meters in length and 24 meters in width, and is well known for the sculptures at its ends.

The four sets of sculptures on the four ends of the Green Bridge are outstanding examples of Soviet realism. Each set consists of two figures representing a Soviet soldier, worker, farmer, and student. Three of the sculptures are 3.2 meters tall, while the soldier sculpture with the flag reaches 4 meters in height.
