Riga Castle

Riga Castle (Riga Castle) is a castle in Riga, the capital of Latvia, located on the banks of the Daugava River. It was established in 1330. It was completely rebuilt between 1497 and 1515. After the Swedes occupied the castle, they expanded the auxiliary buildings in 1641. From the 17th to the 19th century, this castle underwent continuous reconstruction. In the 1930s, architect Eižens Laube carried out restoration work. In 1938, the Latvian government moved into the castle. It currently serves as the official residence of the President of Latvia and also houses several museums.

Riga Castle was originally a three-story building enclosing a rectangular courtyard, with four towers at the corners. Two of the towers that were rebuilt after the castle's demolition in 1484 featured round towers, reflecting the latest developments in military technology at the time. From the 17th to the 19th century, the structure was continuously expanded. In 1682, an armory was added to the castle, which was demolished around a hundred years later, in 1783.
